What is the world coming to?

Seriously, what is the world coming to? More importantly, what is America coming to? I am writing this in response to the voice of America, South Park. To anyone who has never seen the show, it is a very well done satire on current issues, and if you can get around the swearing and language, it is an intelligent show that makes fun of anyone and anything. Recently, for the 200th episode, Matt Stone and Trey Parker (the creators) decided to bring back every group the show has ridiculed for a reunion of sorts. One such group was the prophet Muhammad, the religious figure for Muslims. During the episode, the citizens of the town hid Muhammad in a giant bear costume, and Muhammad is never shown. However, Muslims took offense, and a website, Revolution Muslim, was set up warning that Parker and Stone would be killed. The episode had 2 parts, and the second part aired a week later. Only, in this episode, Muhammad was blocked out completely by a giant black box, and the name was bleeped whenever a character said it. Also, at the end of the episode, when Kyle gave his wrap up speech (a speech at the end of nearly every South Park, in which one of the characters gives a speech telling the moral and what they learned) the entire thing was bleeped out. It never even mentioned Muhammad, it simply discussed not being swayed by intimidation and fear tactics. Which in this case, Comedy Central clearly was. This is America, what happened to freedom of speech and expression? If a network is willing to censor one of their most popular shows in the face of terror, haven't the terrorists won? What is wrong with America? What happened to American exceptionalism, a value which has always made this country great? Also, not to sound racist or anything, but the fact of the matter is that there is something wrong with radical Islam. All muslims are not the enemy, but those who believe the radical version of Islam are wrong. You can't threaten to kill someone over a cartoon, that is simply wrong on every level. Radical Islam is wrong. South Park has featured an episode that had Jesus Christ shitting on an American flag, yet patriotic American's or Christians did not threaten to kill the creators of a CARTOON! Radical Islam is evil, and Comedy Central is run by cowards who cave in to the enemy. What happened to the great America who actually had a First Amendment, which gives many freedoms, such as speech and expression? If American's are willing to bow down to threats from terrorism, I IMPLORE those people to leave my country, for clearly they do not believe in the fundamental things that make this country the United States of America, like, you know, the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on lately?

  1. in response to your statement that radical Islam is evil, i dont think you should subject that belief to just one particular religion. There are many other faiths and religions in the world that can be classified as radical and that your bashing should not be subjected to those radical in one faith. i did see these two episodes of south park and even though i found them extremely funny, i can understand the prespective in which Muslims have taken offense to even though i am not one myself. In particular islamic sects, it is considered a sin to try and create a likeness of Allah and the prophet Muhammad. I do understand that they hid Muhammad in a bear suit and didnt actually give him physical visual characteristics, but South Park unintentionally represented him as a bear, a typically violent and angry animal, so it can be seen that south park and comedy central sees Islam as violent and angry in its entirety.

I do not agree with wot was posted on Revolution Muslim...however it is a blog type site. it is an site in which people can express there "in the moment type feeling"s about things to people who may or may not feel the same way(1st amendment right in which you referred too), similarly to what we are doing right now...like how you feel about this issue. I do not disagree with you that followers who become irrational in their religious practices cannot be beneficial to society, however i am curious as to how you feel that your profound and strong 'in the moment" feelings are any different from those in which you condone. Granted there is no life & death threat present here in your blog, nonetheless this can also be offensive to those who read this and many practicing muslims could view this as a threat to them...just saying lol

  2. I didn't mean to single out all of Islam as being evil because I definitely don't believe that to be the case, which is why I said all muslims are not the enemy. Without a doubt, the majority of muslims are peaceful people, not to be lumped in with those who believe in the radical side of the faith. I should have made that point more clear. And I do understand why they would be offended, but threatening to kill someone over being offended crossed the line, especially for a show like South Park, which makes fun of everyone and everything. In fact, considering South Park has made fun of Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Scientology, and every other religion, to not poke fun at Islam would be discrimination in a twisted way. Also, the first amendment rights to free speech and expression stop at threats of violence, which is not protected speech. I should have made the point about not all muslims being the enemy stronger, just those who take it further and delve into radicalism.

  3. here's the thing about south park. from what ive found the people who seem to find it funniest are the people who dont get made fun of...maybe thats just me and ive encountered the wrong south park fans.
yeah this is american but really americans need to chill the f*ck out. i really think there are more important things to worry about than whether or not the creators of south park are able to express themselves as freely as they would like to.

  4. I think you've encountered the wrong fans because South Park makes fun of everyone. Shitting on an American flag is pretty offensive, but they have every right in the world to do it, as they've done. I personally think Americans are too chilled out. If people don't get worked up over freedom of speech (the FIRST amendment) and caving in to terrorism, why don't we just admit that they've won? But hey, that's just me.
